Terry Specyal

I live in
Munster with my wife, Paula, of 6 years, my 1 year old daughter Madison,
and our Great Dane, Grace.
I began my
swimming career at the Hammond YMCA in the learn-to-swim program. I
begged my parents year after year to let me join the Seahorses, but they
wouldn't let me, so I didn't start swimming competitively until my
freshman year of High School at Munster. I swam for Coach Gary Davis
along with some fast swimmers like Coach Matt and his brother, and a lot
of other greats. My best events were the 100 fly and 200 IM.
After High
School I joined the Army National Guard and also started my studies at
Purdue Calumet in the Elementary Education Program. In 2001, I started
as an assistant coach for Highland High School and Head coach of the
Highland Hurricanes Swim Club until September 2004 when I was called to
active duty to serve overseas in Iraq.
This is my 5th
season with the Seahorses. My primary group is the Redhorses and our
focus is going to be balancing in the water while learning the basic
techniques of all four strokes. In this group we want to have fun while
inspiring young swimmers to be lifelong swimmers.
